History
Quorlan was born in the City of Greyhawk. His beginnings were quite humble, having come from a common, working-class family. His father was a keeper of books for a local merchant and his mother was a teacher's aide in the neighborhood schoolhouse. When Quorlan was a very young man, somewhere around the age of ten, he saw an illusionist performing at the harvest festival as was immediately and hopelessly infatuated with the art of Magic. He began asking his parents to send him to one of the Schools of Wizardry in the city, but his father couldn't afford the costly tuition and his mother thought the arts far too dangerous for her young son.

But the young man was not to be deterred. He continued his studies in school, and began taking small jobs around Greyhawk to earn money which he saved ruthlessly. He finally started moving toward his goal of learning the arts of magic one day, near his eleventh birthday, when he was hired to sweep floors and do some general tidying up around a small magic goods shop near his school.

The merchant was a gruff old man by the name of Garth, and while he was not a wizard himself, he had inherited the shop from his father, who had been a mage of some power and reputation. Garth kept up the shop since his father's passing, feeling he owed it to him for never having had the knack for the art. As the keeper of such a shop, Garth was acquainted with several wizards, sorcerers, and witches of a variety of skill levels. Quorlan was introduced to many of them in the course of his day to day duties around the shop. Occasionally, when Garth had to order a rare item he didn't have in stock for one of his better customers, he would ask young Quorlan to deliver the package for him. Quorlan loved deliveries. Not only did he get to handle rare and mystical items, but he was usually able to lure the unsuspecting recipients into lengthy conversations about the objects they had ordered and the art of magic in general.

On one such delivery, Quorlan was sent to Dologar Keep, home of the well known sorceress, Alynsha Voral. When a servant answered the door to the enormous castle and offered to see the package to his Mistress, Quorlan insisted he was to deliver it in person. The servant explains that Mistress Voral was indisposed and would be unavailable for several hours. Still the young man insisted he would wait. He was shown to a small parlor with a warm hearth and a comfortable chair. He was offered both food and drink several times and it was only after he had been waiting for six hours the he finally relented and accepted a glass a mead, a bowl of thick, meaty stew, and a piece of warm brown bread. An hour after he finished his meal, he was shown to the private laboratory of Lady Alynsha Voral.

The Lady Alynsha was a very gracious hostess and sat a spoke with young Quorlan for nearly two hours before she excused herself to see to other business. She told the young man, as she departed, that he had an intriguing mind and that he should pursue the study of the magical arts. Quorlan explained that he wished that he could but that his parents could not afford to send him to the schools. Nor did his mother believe it to be safe for her only son. Lady Alynsha nodded her understanding and departed.

Quorlan thought that would be the end of that, however a week later, Lady Alynsha arrived in person at Garth's shop and asked to speak to the young man. Garth was taken aback, in all the years he'd done business with the Lady, never had she seen fit to set foot into his humble shop. He gushed over her presence and offered her all manner of food a drink. No matter how often she refused, his offers failed to cease. Finally, she relented and accepted a glass of spiced wine and asked for a place she could speak with Quorlan privately.

When they were alone in Garth's small library, Lady Alynsha uttered the words that would forever alter Quorlan's young life.

"I would like for you to come and apprentice for me," she told the young man.

"B-b-but, Mi'Lady, I haven't any schooling!" Quorlan blathered.

"You will be trained by my own personal staff of instructors, all wizards of the highest caliber, I assure you," she told him.

Quorlan realized that all of his dreams and hopes were being granted by this kind sorceress and was overwhelmed. He felt like he couldn't catch his breath and that his heart was about to explode it was beating so fast. A moment later, the young man fainted and slid to the floor in a messy heap.
